How to make wax leaves:
Pinned Imagewaxed leaves... Make sure your leaves are completely dry. Melt some beeswax in a double-boiler. You can use new wax or old candle stubs (optional - add a few drops of cinnamon oil). When the wax is thoroughly melted, take the leaves by the stem and immerse them, one at a time, in the wax. Hold them over the pot to drip a bit, then lay them on waxed paper to dry.

My next board is major cart before horse (since we haven’t even started talking about MAYBE thinking about MAYBE having another baby) but how cute:

Top Ten Baby Items I Could Have Lived Without

That’s right, these are my top ten over-hyped, probably wasn’t worth my money baby items that I won’t be using for the second baby and really wish I hadn’t even messed with for Ade. Next week I’ll have my top ten could.not.have.survived.without.this.and.still.be.sane.today items. It will be fun to compare won’t it? I wonder what of ours will be the same and what you would have put on the opposite list.

Let’s get started:

1. Changing Table — Yes, seriously. Up until AJ could roll over we used the bassinet in our room for her to sleep in (it was a big one and she was a tiny baby) and so we changed her on a pad on our bed and never really had a problem. Then once she could roll and was introduced into her room we used the floor for fear of her rolling off the changing table. (Hi, my name is Michele, I am an over-protective mother that freaks out about every freaking little thing.)

2. Wipe Warmer — This thing should be called the Wipe Dehydrater. Seriously, enough said.

3. Special Laundry Detergent — Ya’ll know by now that I wash everything with Eco Nuts so I won’t write a big long paragraph about them. For those of you interested but haven’t read any of my stuff on them go here. (Ok just one thing, have any of you really looked at what is in Dreft? How did they ever become the must-have baby laundry soap?)

4. Baby shoes — Now don’t get me wrong, I love baby shoes! And the soft soled ones are stinking adorable, but really you don’t need them until baby starts standing and walking. So try to resist, or just buy one pair that has some stretch to it and just use those.

5. Baby bath tub — You know, every house I’ve ever been in has had a kitchen sink and you know what, they are positioned at the optimum level to not wear out your back or knees. Bonus, you don’t have to find a place to store something so oddly shaped as the baby bath tub! Sounds like a win/win to me.

6. Full sized high chair — Not necessary and a pain to figure out were to store when we have company and want to use all sides of the dining room table. Next week I’ll tell you what our favorite option is.

7. Shopping Cart covers — This is a good idea, but it doesn’t help when you forget it practically ALL the time.¬†I’m so glad that they have started putting disinfecting wipes at all of the doors of most major store chains now-a-days.

8. Bottle Warmer — I realize this might be more useful if your baby gets more bottles than mine did, but we never used it. It was seriously faster to just leave a glass of water in the microwave at all times (it¬†sure felt like it most days) and just hit the button and wait. But Ade was breast-fed, it is probably an entirely different situation for a formula baby.

9. Nursing Bras — I’m sorry, I know this is a little TMI, but seriously ladies, these¬†things suck!!! So instead I bought a bunch of clasp in the front between your boobs bras and used those.¬†So much better and as long as you get ones with wire¬†they will hold the opposite side in place while you have unleashed the other one.¬†Stop giggling, I’m serious. Plus you can get really good at the one-handed clasp/unclasp if you just¬†practice. I would say it was just as easy as the silly nursing bra clasps.

10. Nursing cover — A light blanket works just fine and is something that you usually have with you. I’m sure some¬†swear by their nursing¬†cover, but it was just easier for me¬†to throw a blanket over us.

Alright, what would have made it onto your list? What would you have not put on this list that I did?

Weekly Top Ten: How In the World Did I End Up Here?

Hello everyone!! I’m sure some of you have noticed that I lately I’ve been lacking in blog posts. Sorry, I blame the Florida sunshine. But now, we are back to reality and I am back to blogging on a semi-daily basis. In fact, I just spent the last 45 minutes writing a great post for next Wednesday about my favorite tips for traveling on a plane with a toddler. Make sure to come back and check out all my hard work :).

Okay, this week I want to share with you the Top Ten ways that people find my blog. Some of them I am sharing because they are entertaining, not because they bring a lot of views. Others account for a large number a views and I’ll let you know which is which. Alright, without further ado!

10. Crayons melted through a glue gun. Seriously, I have gotten over 50 random views from people searching for this or some kind of very similar wording in a search engine. How bizarre that my one post would get somehow tagged for this. They are directed to this post, which ironically was my first Weekly Top Ten!

9. For The Love of Blogs. This is a blog that is all about promoting other blogs. They have blog hops almost daily. Sometimes these blog hops are specific (Tasty Tuesdays) and sometimes they are very general (Comment Love Sundays). Either way, it is a very fun way to get out there and meet new bloggers while bringing in some new faces too! They also will feature your blog if you submit a request!

8. Do marshmallows and butter combine chemically? Okay, so this only happened once, but how awesome is that? Now, I don’t know if they combine chemically, but here at Chemically Inclined, they combine beautifully in this post.

7. Comment Hour. This is a really neat blog hop. You are given 25 blogs in 1 hour and you go and read a post of theirs and leave a comment! I have found so many great blogs through this and made new blogging friends! The blog hop is always on Wednesday night, and you must have a twitter to participate, but if you sign up ahead of time, your blog might just be one of the 25!

6. Picket Fence Blogs. Picket Fence is a free ranked blog directory for bloggers. They take your incoming views and outgoing clicks and rank your blog. Click below to vote for ChemInclined!

Clicking through the pages is a great way to find new blogs that you might like since all of them have a little blurb you can read. If you have a blog you should join! You will be surprised how many people will find you!

5. I Prefer to be Barefoot.¬†This is another one of those searches that brought in more people than you would think. I was amazed at how many people Google’d this. Well, their search lead them straight to this post.

4. Works for Me Wednesdays. This is the most fun blog hop I participate in!! I love reading other people’s tips!¬†

3.¬†Twitter and Facebook pages. But mostly Twitter. It might just be me, but my Twitter page is a lot more active than my Facebook. Except for the time that I was mentioned on Eco Nut’s Facebook page.

2. How Much Can You Save Cloth Diapering.¬†This is another very popular search engine hit. I’m happy to see that more soon-to-be parents are considering Cloth Diapering! We really love it in my family, more than I even thought that we would. Check out my price breakdown and feel free to ask me any questions you have!

1. Money¬†Saving¬†Mom. I post my weekly Walgreen’s deal in her link up and lots of people come by and check out the¬†deals! It’s a fun way to¬†find other¬†blogs that have great¬†shopping deal ideas too!

Top Ten: Comfort Food

10. The Patty Melt from Freddy’s Frozen Custard and their fries (Yes, ma’am I would like a large thank you.)

9. Enchilada casserole (what is there not to love?)

8. Cup of fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries and vanilla bean cream cheese dip.

7. Mint Chocolate Ice Cream (this is obvious)

6. Lasagna (I have a recipe were you don’t have to cook the noodles and it freezes. Perfect for a bad day because you can just pull it out and pop it right into the oven.)

5. Sweet Potato fries (homemade prefered!)

4. Mangos (To bad they are a pain to get into)

3. My mommy’s fried chicken (she has a special way of making it)

2. Brownies (with York peppermint patties melted on top and dark chocolate chips mixed into the batter)

1. Mashed Potatoes (Homemade, with heavy whipping cream, butter, sour cream, cream cheese, milk, rosemary and just a smidgen of ginger.)

What would make it onto your top ten?

Weekly Top Ten: Words for Adelyn

This week’s top ten started out so simple and seemed so easy, but as I kept digging into it I quickly found that it was extremely hard to narrow down to just ten things.¬†These are sayings for Ade and yes Pinterest did have something to do with this ūüôā¬†

Weekly Top Ten

Oh yes, you read that right. I’m absolutely going to start making Top Ten lists. I’m hoping it will be a nice way to interact with all of you out there¬†that I see coming to my blog. Yes, you, I am talking to YOU! Hi, how are you today? What have you been up to?

Wait. What? Sorry I got side tracked. Anyways, I’ll post my top ten for the week (no promises that it will always be on Sunday, I mean, Saturday at 10pm is still totally part of the week right?? Ok, I promise I won’t be that late. Geez. No faith people) and then you can post your top ten, a suggestion for a top ten that I could do, a link to your blog with a top ten post, or a general agreement in the awesomeness of my top ten. (OR NOT!)

To start us off I’m going to do an easy one: Top ten things I found on Pinterst that I am going to make and then plan to blog about. (Yes,I’m serious. Hold me accountable and I will cross these off the list as I go!)

1. Christmas Cards using Ade-tude’s¬†hand print. Hmmm, wonder if she will cooperate? Obviously this one with have to wait until Christmas.

2. DIY I Spy books. Love this idea so much!!! I realize baby girl is too small for these, but I have a niece and nephew that I think would love these and can’t wait to make them. Then I will have practice for making AJ some.

3. Awesome room decoration idea for a kid’s play room. Seriously, this looks like so much fun! The end product is so fun looking too. So bright too! Crayons pushed through a glue gun (I will have to buy a cheap glue gun for this one because I get the vibe it will ruin the gun.)

4.¬† Homemade deodorant. I can’t wait to see if this works!

5. DIY Soy candles. These are meant to be wedding favors, but I see so much potential. Especially since my mother and mother-in-law both love candles! Oh, and me of course!

6. Sophisticated pumpkins. I really think this dresses up Halloween. (Ok, lame I know, sorry.)

Tacked Pumpkins

7. Heart Decorations for our bedroom, but with a twist. You cut out of the map the place where you first met, got married, and went on your honeymoon. Awesome no? Perfection!

8. Buttons and Ruffles T-shirt, yeah I know this looks really difficult. But what is a list for if I’m not going to push¬† myself? So, hopefully I can pull this off…

9. Mason jar pictures to decorate the kitchen.

10. A homemade sugar scrub just for me!! How delicious!
